What are organic foods?

Organic foods’ means that it has been produced without the use of any artificial chemical, fertilizer or pesticides. These treatments start right from the seed and continue till the food is consumed.

It has become a popular and healthy trend. Organic food said to be healthier than conventional food. ‘Healthier’ does not necessarily mean more nutritious. It means safer for human consumption.

This means that growing a food organically doesn’t alter the nutritional content but the lack of synthetic pesticide and insecticide residues on organically grown foods surely makes it a safer product.

Organic farming protects the health and fertility of the soil The health of the soil is first an foremost for organic farmers. Organic farming yields healthy plants by building healthy, rich soil improves with time and good farming.

Restricting the use of pesticides, as is the case in organic farming, also improves water quality and fewer pesticide residues are found in food products.

Because organic foods are grown and produced naturally, many people say they have better, fresher taste than nonorganic foods.

But it is to be understood that organic food itself is not guaranteed free of pesticide residues. Even the most carefully grown organic products may get contaminated from residues coming from the soil from previous farming practices or from contaminated water supplies.

Going for organic produce is a positive approach and a respectable gesture of showing one’s concern for the environment.

Biodiversity and nature protection: organic farming contribute to the reservation of species and natural habitats by means of its reduced inputs, its high share of grassland within holdings and its greater use of indigenous breeds and plant varieties.

Organic foods, once a niche product sold in a limited number of retail outlets, are currently sold in a wide variety of venues including farmers markets, natural supermarkets, conventional supermarkets, and club stores.
